Laundry with Leola

Today I did laundry without detergent.  I guess the proper statement would be 'Today I rinsed my clothes'.  My dear mother is probably cringing as she reads this and thinking 'did I teach my daughter anything?'

No worries mom.  I can in no way blame my lazy spirit on you and the example of hard work that you daily live out for us kids.

Lazy.  That is truly the only explanation for this morning's Laundry with Leola episode.  I stuffed my linens and a few clothes into my pillowcase, took the elevator down 6 stories and headed to the laundry room.  I tapped my card to pay for a machine, put the clothes into the machine, selected a wash cycle, closed the door and then realized I had left my detergent way over and up in my room.  Moment of decision.  Although the round trip to my room and back would have taken a mere 5 minutes, in that moment I did not feel like walking back.  The only thing on my mind was breakfast and an iced coffee.  So I decided that since my load for today was mostly washcloths, towels and bed sheets, they could go with just a good rinse.  Hit start and I was happily on my way.

Fast forward 45 minutes and I was stuffing my well rinsed linens into the dryer.  I again tapped my card to pay, selected the machine, chose a dry cycle, hit start and off I went to the study room around the corner.  40 minutes later I returned to the laundry room to find a dryer full of wet laundry.  Confused and rather annoyed, I stared at the machine trying to figure out what was wrong.  (I confess, I did not bother to make sure the machine had started before I walked away.)  As I stood there trying to figure out if I had goofed up or if I could blame it on the machine, I realized that once again I had no one to blame but myself.

In my haste, I selected the wrong machine.  I paid $1.00 to have my damp linens sit in a machine for a 1/2 hour.  I sure hope they enjoyed the vacation.  Unfortunately I discovered my error too late and wasn't able to merely switch over to the other machine and press start.  I had to pay another $1.00 but this time, 40 minutes and an extra $1 later, my laundry was done.  Smelling all fresh even without detergent!  Now it's all neatly folded and sitting on my bed.  All but the sheets of course, they are waiting to be put back on the mattress.  It's been a tough day trying to be domestic.  I think I'll stick to being a student.

City at Night

Cities at night captivate me. My love affair was rekindled last week as some of us took a stroll along Marina Bay to check out a bit of the festivities for the Chinese New Year.  The world of nature offers breathtaking beauty but I have to say that there is also something so enchanting about the lights of a city piercing the darkness of night.
